10 commonly used Filipino words

1. Ligaya – This is the state of well-being characterized by emotions that range from contentment to intense joy.

Ex.

Ang binigay ni Pedro na bulaklak ay nagpaligaya sa kanyang ina.

2. Harana – The act of singing a song dedicated to a woman in hopes to woo her.

Ex.

Si Pedro ay hinarana ang kanyang iniirog.

3. Minsan – On certain occasions or in certain cases but not always; sometimes

Ex.

Pa minsan-minsan ay sumisimple si Pedro na lambingin ang kanyang iniirog.

4. Maskara – A covering to disguise or conceal the face.

Ex.

Si Juan ay may maskarang nakasuot nung nagpunta siya sa bahay nila Pedro.

5. Kamote – sweet potatoes, a root crop that is similar to a potato, but sweeter.

Ex.

Ang paboritong meryenda ni Juana ay ang pagkain ng kamote.

6. Patatas – potatoes, an edible root crop that is a good source of carbohydrates and micronutrients.

Ex.

Si Princess Sarah ay mahilig magbalat ng patatas.

7. Bigay – It is pertaining to the act of giving something.

Ex.

Sa pagsasagot ng pagsusulit, si Juanico ay mahilig magbigay ng sagot sa kanyang katabi.

8. Laro – It pertains to a contest that has arbitrary rules to determine a winner.

Ex.

Si Pedro ay mahilig maglaro ng patintero.

9. Tulog – A necessity to human survival, mostly occur in nights. This is the natural state of rest where the consciousness to the outside world is suspended.

Ex.

Masarap matulog pag wala nang iniisip na takdang-aralin.

10. Hugot – It refers to the vocalization of sad and somewhat deep emotions of the speaker.

Ex.

Si Soffiya ay laging humuhugot pag pinag-uusapan ang relasyon ng ibang tao.
